2026 India Faculty Leaders

Both Allegheny College faculty leaders bring a wealth of academic and experiential knowledge to make this a memorable tour. In addition, we will have an accompanying veteran English-speaking travel executive, from our Indian travel agency, with us for the duration of our adventure in India, and knowledgeable local guides at sites, as needed.

Dr. Ishita Sinha Roy
Media & Cultural Studies

Dr. Sinha Roy is from Mumbai, India. She earned her PhD in Communication from the University of Southern California (USC), where she also taught before she joined Allegheny College in 2001. The recipient of teaching awards at USC, as well as the Thoburn Prize at Allegheny College, she has been actively involved in various diversity and global education initiatives at Allegheny, and was the Co-Principle Investigator on a Mellon Grant for internationalizing this campus. Her research and teaching unpack global media narratives and representations, especially within nation-branding. â€‹Ishita's  recent book, Manufacturing Indianness (Peter Lang, 2019), examines the idea of India as constructed by various colonial and postcolonial narratives, tropes, and representations.

Since 2006, Ishita has led several groups of Allegheny College students on global study abroad seminars to various emerging economies in the non-western world, including India. And during the COVID pandemic, she brought that global learning to life under lockdown, co-directing the college's Global Citizen Scholars Cohort IV (2020-22) on "Empowering Women Worldwide."

Ishita is on the Steering Committee of the college's interdisciplinary Public Humanities Program. In the wider Meadville Community, she is actively involved in the Rotary AM Club of Meadville, and serves on the Board of Creating Landscapes Learning Centers Inc., a non-profit organization that has spearheaded various transformative projects for over 10 years.

You can learn more about Ishita through her  personal website.
